The central theme of Tantra
is woman, personified in the godess Shakti who is the incarnation of the
feminine aspect. Tantra literally means expansion of energy, or "woven
together", and it is through the feminine receptive principle that the
whole of creation emerges. Feminine energy is also known as the counterpart,
consort or wife of Shiva.
Tantric teachings, for example the 108 ancient 'sutras', are highly condensed
telegraphic messages usually presented in the form of a dialogue between Shiva
and Shakti. These present ways to accelerate spiritual progress and to attain
divine union by awakening and commanding of the cosmic energy - kundalini
shakti - lying asleep at the base of the spine, the 'muladhara' chakra. For a
woman to access her kundalini shakti energy requires a revolutionary insight
into femininity and deeply understanding what it means to have a female body.
Man's body is equal and opposite to a woman's body, and therefore kundalini is
awakened differently to woman's. However in most esoteric teachings the male
route to awaken kundalini energy is indicated.
Woman in her essence is Love, and because of this she has an intrinsic need to
live in the ambience of love twenty-four hours a day. Her basic interest is
love, and out of that love other interests may grow, but they are part of
love.Through unconscious sexuality man represses woman's orgasmic nature, which
means many women do not experience true love. Instead, in the name of love,
there exists competition, jealousy, possession, violence, aggression and a
great deal of unhappiness. The lack of love present in the society, and
expressed through conventional sexuality, leaves scars in female bodies and
psyches. Stepping into feminine love is a process of purification, releasing
the past inviting an innate quality into the expression of being in love.
